Brigade general Meeting:

A General Meeting of the Alpine/Aylmerton Rural Fire Brigade will be held on Wednesday 28th March 2012, commencing at 8pm. This meeting will set a date for the Brigade AGM, as well as review the Brigade constitution. All are welcome to attend.

See the proposed changes to the Brigade constitution.

St Michael's School Fete:

The Alpine Brigade attended the St Michael's School Fete during October, and used the opportunity to both support local schools and to promote Fire Awareness. Information regarding Bush Fire Survival Plans was distributed to community members prior to the approaching fire season.

Children and adults had the opportunity to view close up some of the Brigade equipment and gain a deeper insight into the roles of the NSW Rural Fire Service.

Les Lambert Memorial Award:

Bruce and Alan Kerslake, longtime members of Apline Brigade, have been awarded the Les Lambert Memorial Award for 2011.  Bruce and Alan have been stalwarts of Alpine Brigade for a number of years.

Alan Kerslake joined the Alpine brigade in 1953 and before the advent of radios and pagers, became a “runner”  using a bicycle to advise neighbours of the threat of fire.  On the bicycle, complete with knapsack spray, he would then attend the fire.  Alan’s commitment to the brigade was carried out while operating a full time dairy, and he often travelled from the dairy to fire calls by motorbike.  Over the last 35 years, Alan has held the position of either brigade Captain or Senior Deputy Captain.

Bruce Kerslake has over 45 years of experience with the Alpine Rural Fire Brigade.  Bruce has held the position of Brigade Treasurer since 1964 and has been an elected Deputy Captain since 1982.  Bruce has a wealth of fire fighting experience, both in the Wingecarribee Shire and in Penrith, Liverpool, Wollondilly, Canberra and Blue Mountains areas.  Bruce was one of the District’s first qualified “Breathing Apparatus” operators.

The Les Lambert Memorial Award was set up to recognize the contribution Les Lambert made to Wingecarribee Bush Fire Brigades and the Rural Fire Service.  His first experience with firefighting was during the 1939 Kangaloon fires.  Les was a  radio and radar operator during World War II, and used this wealth of experience to set up radio training programs for local RFS volunteers.  The first award was made in 1999, to acknowledge volunteers who had excelled in RFS training programs.
